Cusco & Machu Picchu 5 Days

This is a perfect trip to explore the heart of the Incan Empire for those who have few days to visit Peru. In five days you will see the historic and cultural sites of Cusco and the Sacred Valley, ending your trip at the majestic citadel of Machu Picchu (for 2 Days).

Day 1 Cusco
Day 2 Sacred Valley: Pisac - Ollantaytambo
Day 3 Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu
Day 4 Machu Picchu / Cusco
Day 5 Cusco / Lima

Day 1 Cusco
Upon arrival to Cusco airport you will be met by our personnel and transferred to your hotel, rest of the morning free to relax and slowly acclimatize. In the afternoon pick up from your hotel for a combined special city tour (walking and by van) and nearby ruins on a group basis.  Leaving early by vehicle we wind our way on the road to Sacsayhuaman, a vast fortress built on three platforms, overlooking the city of Cusco. From here we continue to Kenko, a site of worship with a high rock carved into the shape of a Puma which dominates a series of canals, passageways painted with animals. Return to Cusco, and visit the main sites and streets around the Plaza de Armas and the Sun Temple of Koricancha inside the Santo Domingo Temple. At the end of the walk through the city you will end at your lodging facility. (B)

  • Overnight in Cusco (3400 m, 11150 ft.)

Day 2 Sacred Valley
Pick up from hotel, a 45 minute bus ride will take you to the Sacred Valley for a full day group visit to the Pisac ruins and market and then on to Ollantaytambo, an attractive little village located at the western end of the Sacred Valley has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning. The town is divided in canchas (blocks) which are almost entirely intact. Each cancha has only one entrance (usually a huge stone doorway) which leads into a central courtyard. We will visit the Inca ruins situated on a hill-top landscape with surrounding terracing and with ciclopean rock carvings. From the hill-top there is an extraordinary view of the village below and the surrounding countryside. (B)

  • Overnight in the Sacred Valley

Day 3 Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu
Early transfer from your hotel to the train station at Ollantaytambo for your two hour ride down the Urubamba gorge as it changes from mountain vegetation to cloud forest, arrival at the station of Machu Picchu Pueblo.  A half hour bus ride will bring you up to Machu Picchu, after the crowds are gone you start a  guided visit which on average takes three hours as your official guide walks you through the different sectors of the hill-top citadel, with astonishing views, telling you aspects of life here that will take you back in time. Lunch is included in Machu Picchu Village, dinner on your own. (B, L)

  • Overnight in Aguas Calientes (Altitude: 2000m, 6500ft)

Day 4 Machu Picchu / Cusco
